According to sacred texts, Muruga was married to King of Heaven Indra’s daughter after winning his battle against demon-King Surapadman and his brothers. According to traditional practices, participating in or witnessing divine marriages is considered very auspicious. It is a traditional belief that taking part in the special Subramanya Swamy Thirukalyanam (Muruga’s Divine Marriage Ceremony) during Skanda Shasti can remove marriage obstacles and bestow blissful marital life.
