Vedic agriculture recognizes and uses five sacred substances that come from cows:

Milk – fertilizer, food for humans

Urine – insect repellent, pesticide, fertilizer (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium), multi-purpose medicine

Ghee (clarified butter) – fertilizer, coating for seeds before planting,

Dung – fertilizer, fuel for heating

Yogurt – fertilizer, food for humans

Vedic farmers mix all of the above with coconut water, bananas, and jaggery (traditional cane sugar) to make fertilizer. These ingredients are said to work wonders for the health and nutritional value of crops, and even the poorest farmers can use them.

Trained Vedic priests honor cows during Gho Pooja by making special offerings and reciting special prayers. This is believed to invoke the blessings of Lakshmi, the Wealth Goddess Archetype, and Kamadhenu, the Wish-Fulfilling Cow Archetype.

According to tradition, this prayer offering does many things. It can remove negativity and poverty consciousness, enable the fulfillment of your wishes, dissolve karma from ancestors, relieve debt, and bestow overall prosperity.

The best times to perform cow offerings are New Moons, Fridays during the Tamil month of Thai (mid-Jan through mid-Feb), and Akshaya Tritiya. Any Friday of the year is also considered auspicious because Fridays are ruled by Lakshmi.

Ashwa Pooja to Invoke Horses, Vehicles of the Sun

In Vedic mythology, a Vahana is an animal used as a vehicle by the Gods. The nine planets are thought to be Gods, and the Sun is a God archetype named Surya in Sanskrit. In scripture, the Sun is said to ride seven horses.

An Indian festival called Ashwa Pooja is the main event during which these services are performed. During Ashwa Pooja, horses are honored as the vehicles who carry the Sun. Ashwa Pooja invokes the Sun, which symbolizes your soul and your inner light.

Vedic priests also perform these offerings during Night 9 of the 9 Nights of the Goddess (Navaratri) festivals, which occur in spring and autumn. Akshaya Tritiya is also an auspicious time for horse invocations.

The sacred rituals performed to honor these divine animals are a traditional practice that is believed to invoke abundance, royalty and power, and magnanimity blessings.
