\u201cThis festival called ‘Deepam’ is the single most important time for spiritual people to gain access to the divine domain. During this special Full Moon, hundreds of thousands of siddhas come down from heaven.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>From this day onward, we have to see beyond the mind to identify with light. We are the light. Once we are identified with the light body, then everything will be done. As Swami Ramalingam says, ‘It can only be done through grace.’ \u201d\u00a0<\/em>\u2014 Dr. Pillai<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Deepam Mythotherapy: The Day of Enlightenment\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

Deepam is an ancient Tamil festival. It is celebrated by lighting a giant flame on top of Thiruvannamalai, also known as Mt. Arunachala or the Mountain of Fire, during the Full Moon in the Tamil month of Kartikai, under the star, Krittika.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are several key mythologies associated with Deepam, which help shed light on just how significant it is, particularly its association with enlightenment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Once, the creator, Brahma, and the sustainer, Vishnu, were debating who was superior. Eventually, Shiva got involved. He appeared to them as a huge pillar of light. Vishnu turned into a boar and began digging into the earth to find the bottom of the pillar. Brahma turned into a swan and began flying up to find the head.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now enlightened with the truth beyond their egos, both agreed that Shiva was superior. This pillar of light took a form on earth as Mt. Arunachala, the supreme source of all light. This was said to have happened on Deepam day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another Deepam occurrence is the birth of Muruga, the son of Shiva, who the siddhas consider to personify ultimate perfection. Six sparks were said to have emerged from the eye of Shiva, who later took the form of six babies. <\/span><\/p>\n

The babies were nurtured by the six maidens of the star Krittika, then merged into one form by Muruga\u2019s mother, Parvati. The merging of the six forms is said to be symbolic for the merging of all six chakras, the merging of Shiva and Shakti, and experiencing enlightenment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yet another significant event that was said to have happened on this day, which is reminiscent of the theme of the last story in merging the Divine masculine and feminine into one form as enlightenment, is that of Parvati merging with Shiva to become Ardhaneeswarar.<\/span><\/p>\n
