Maha Sivaratri<\/span><\/strong> is coming up on Friday, February the 24th<\/sup>.\u00a0 This is a tremendously auspicious day of the year to pray to Lord Siva.\u00a0 Dr. Pillai says that to pray to Siva on this one day of the year is equal to meditating for one million years! See Astroved\u2019s \u201cQuick Guide on how to worship Siva<\/a><\/strong>\u201d on this day of the year.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Do the One Minute Meditation: Om NaMaShiVaYa<\/em><\/span><\/strong> represents everything in the universe and that is condensed into these powerful sounds.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Take a bath before 6 P.M., put on clean clothes, consider fasting (or cut back on non-vegetarian food), and then sit quietly and practice the meditation.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. If you have bilva leaves, you can offer them to a siva yantra or siva lingam. Perform abishekam (hydrating with water, milk, juice) on the siva lingam.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Dr. Pillai says that we can skip meditating all year if we just meditate this one night.\u00a0 This is worth one million years of meditation!\u00a0 And you ask, \u201cWhy would we want to meditate?\u201d To answer this question, Sucharita read us a quote from a book called \u201cThe Yoga of Jesus\u201d by Paramahansa Yogananda (available at Self Realization Fellowship bookstore<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n
