In the Vedic tradition, the Ashwamedha mantras are one of the oldest and the greatest set of Vedic mantras. When chanted by qualified priests, these mantras can bestow power, royalty, purity, prosperity and grace, the qualities represented by a horse. The Vedas prescribe the ritual to be performed as Ashwamedha Yagna (Fire Lab to Gain Universal Sovereignty) for a King to gain ultimate power, status, wealth and authority as a high King. This elaborate and complex procedure has been converted into modern-day practice as Ashwamedha chanting.
