There are many inspiring stories of various saints who received healing miracles from Muruga. Pamban Swamikal, a Tamil saint and poet, once had an accident while in Chennai in 1923. His leg bone was so seriously fractured that the doctors at the hospital thought they must amputate the leg. Pamban Swamikal had a great vision of Muruga appearing in the form of two peacocks (a bird associated with Muruga). The peacocks touched his leg. He also had a vision of Muruga in a child form (Bala Muruga) touching the same leg with a vel (a kind of mystical spear). Fire Up Self-Esteem Interactive Fire Lab on July 16th/17th: This Interactive Fire Lab will be performed to invoke the Sun, the king of the Vedic planets (called grahas in Sanskrit). The Sun is making a transit into the Zodiac sign of Cancer. The Sun is a very important planet for health, self-esteem and career development. For the next six months, the Sun’s course is said to travel in a southward direction. This period is called Dakshinayana. Dakshinayana starts in mid-July when the Sun enters Cancer, and it ends in mid-January when the Sun enters Capricorn. In the Vedic calendar, there will be many spiritual festivals during these six months. The Sun’s light especially illuminates our inner consciousness during this time.
There is support for inner-directed work during this time (including things like research, writing and other things that may be in the process of creation without being launched yet). This is an auspicious time to propitiate the Sun to increase a positive connection with him during his southward journey for the next six months. This Interactive Fire Lab will be performed to invoke Ganesha his form as Dwija Ganapati. In this form, he is known as “the twice-born.” Dwi indicates the number two in Sanskrit, and ja is an abbreviation for janma, meaning birth. Since Ganesha’s original form was totally human and later he received a form with an elephant’s head, he can be said to be twice-born. Dwija Ganapati has a Moon-like white color. He can bestow blessings for both good health and prosperity. In one of his hands he holds an ola leaf (a kind of palm leaf). In Southern India and Sri Lanka, traditional palm leaf manuscripts were often used for spiritual purposes including Nadi astrology. This fire prayer will be done during the beneficial obstacle removal energies of 4th Moon phase, a powertime for Ganesha.
