Muruga's Vel holds great significance and bestows profound blessings upon those who worship it. The Vel, the divine weapon of Muruga, can remove negativity, destroy ignorance, and grant the protective blessings of Muruga. As the warrior God, Muruga offers victory and inner strength to overcome both external and internal challenges.
Worship of the Vel is often sought during difficult times. According to traditional belief, it serves as a source of guidance, helping to achieve victory over life's trials and tribulations. Establishing a connection with the Vel can lead to a clear and focused mind, essential for making wise decisions.
Directions for Using the Vel
Place the Vel on a clean, sacred altar or in a prayer room, facing east or north.
Perform Abishekam (hydration pooja) to the Vel with turmeric water, rose water, or milk, according to your personal practice—daily, weekly, or monthly. After the Abishekam, rinse the Vel with water and wipe it dry.
You may apply a round dot of sandalwood paste at the center of the Vel.
Meditate in front of the Vel daily, during Mars Hora or on the 6th Moon.
Offer fresh red flowers while chanting the mantra “Om Saravana Bava” 108 times daily, during Mars Hora, on Tuesdays, or on the 6th Moon days.
Please Note: The Vel’s color may change over time, especially with regular Abishekam. However, this change does not diminish the power of the energized Vel.
