What are Nadi leaves?

Nadi leaves are palm leaves that have been dried and cured with special herbs, and vary in size from a little smaller than a grade school ruler to the size of a yardstick or meterstick. The leaves are etched with tiny handwritten inscriptions were created hundred of years ago by a group of enlightened masters in southern India known as Siddhas, many of whose names are not well known in the West.

The story goes that Lord Shiva was very pleased with the devotion from these Siddhas so he blessed them with the gift of clairvoyance - the ability to see into a person's past, present and future. These Siddhas made agreements with many people to help them in a future lifetime when they would need special guidance or assistance. Using the Nadi leaves, the Siddhas wrote out the key problems the person would be facing and what to do to alleviate those problems, and noted the many blessings that might be in store for the person in that lifetime.

The Maharajah Serfoji II of Tanjore, who was a great patron of the arts and sciences, stored these leaves in his palace library so they would be available for the future. The British acquired these leaves during their rule and later sold them to some Indian families, who still own them. These families carefully preserve them and continue to train people in the proper reading of the leaves so that people may still benefit from the ancient advice of these Siddhas.

Today, a temple in southern India, Vaitheeswaran Koil, is considered the nerve center of the Nadi tradition. Surrounded by other temples of great significance, the entire village reverberates with this ancient Nadi wisdom. The Nadi readers Dr. Pillai works with are from this area.

What is Nadi astrology?

Nadi astrology is perhaps one of the most mystical branches of Vedic astrology. It combines astrological information with divine 'seeings' into your past, present and future for a unique picture of your soul's destiny.

The readings are broken into chapters, sometimes beginning with a beautiful short conversation or poem between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. Most people initially get chapters 1, 13 and 14 for a general overview on what to expect this lifetime, identification of the biggest past life problem that is causing difficulties now, and how to remove that problem through a series of remedies.

Once you have performed these remedies, you can delve into other chapters with details on specific areas of your life, or have specific questions answered. In their divine seeing these Siddhas even knew what questions you would be asking at specific times, and have already provided you with the answers.

Do I have a Nadi?

It is said that not everyone has a Nadi leaf. If you do, it is believed that you will learn about the leaves so that you may be guided to receive your reading at the predestined time noted in your leaf.

Seekers beware! There is much out there in the name of Nadi astrology. Not every Nadi is comprehensive or legitimate. There are fake Nadi leaves. It is important to be cautious about the source.

Dr. Pillai has spent more than 20 years seeking out the most authentic leaves and the most reliable readers. He recommends starting the search with a Shiva Nadi, the supreme Nadi, which is a dialogue between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. Whereas other Nadis usually give predictions spanning every five years or so, the Shiva Nadis give unusually detailed predictions on a bi-yearly or yearly basis, sometimes even every six months.

If your leaf is not available with Shiva Nadi, Dr. Pillai has leaves from other illustrious saints, such as Visvamitra, Bogar and Pulipani.

To find your leaf the Nadi reader searches through piles of carefully stored leaves using your 'yes' or 'no' answers to a series of questions, your unique thumbprint, plus other criteria to guide him. Once found, the reader transcribes the Siddha's ancient Tamil words into a notebook that is then translated into English.

At present there are three ways to find your Nadi. You can experience the process first-hand in India as you sit before the reader and answer his questions with 'yes' or 'no'. Or, you can have your reading done through the mail. It is also now possible to do readings directly with the Nadi reader via remote live video conferencing (SKYPE).

For the in-person option, visit our India trip information. For the mail order option or the live SKYPE video conference call option, please visit our sister site Astroved.com and follow directions there. In some cases it is possible to locate the correct leaf with only a person's thumbprint. Once your leaf is found and the reading is completed you will be emailed or regular mailed a copy of the reading along with explanations of the temples and rituals for your remedies. Please note our Store does not offer Nadi services.

What do I do once I get my Nadi reading?

Dr. Pillai says it is not enough for you to know your destiny. You also need to change and reconstruct that destiny as you wish to have it. For this reason, the most important aspects of Nadi astrology are the remedies involving rituals at temples with specific energies to transmute difficult past life problems that affect you now.

Remedies are a yogic art that Dr. Pillai has permission to share more openly with the world. Dr. Pillai insists on the importance of performing these remedies and blesses each person's remedy process so they can receive the maximum benefit.

At present there are two ways to perform your remedies, and it is possible to do both options. You can do them yourself, which is the most powerful way to dissolve your karma. To learn more visit our India trip information.

The other option is to do them via proxy. This option is often people's first choice if they cannot immediately perform remedies in person, and they want to see some immediate benefit. For this option, a team of knowledgeable and sincere people that Dr. Pillai has selected from the AstroVed Homa Center will perform your remedies on your behalf, as specified in your Nadi. You may select this option through instructions in the notes portion of your Nadi reading that will be sent to you.
