Dasavatar, the ten most powerful incarnations of Vishnu (Supreme Preserver and Protector of the Universe), descended on earth in different Yugas (time periods) to destroy darkness and demonic forces, and relieve suffering and sorrow.
According to the Bhagavata Mahapurana, Vishnu, in his Dasavatar, appeared to balance the effect of good and evil upon the earth, re-establish peace, and Dharma (righteousness), shower his devotees with well-being and prosperity, and show them the path to self-actualization and liberation.
Pillai Center will invoke the power and blessings of Vishnu’s 10 avatars in our 10-Month Grand Dasavatar Program with 23 Grand Ceremonies performed during his powertime on Ekadasi (11th Moon) days. Ekadasi, the 11th day of the New Moon and Full Moon, is one of the most sacred and auspicious days to connect deeply with Vishnu to purify mind, body and soul through fasting and prayer and to receive blessings for relief from afflictions, happiness, and Moksha (salvation).
Sri Krishna extolls the significance of Ekadasi in the Bhagavad Gita and says that when we observe fasting and austerities on this day, we can free ourselves of sinful ways and establish a deeper connection with the Supreme Being.

Divinity Incarnate Shaligram Stone: Sublime Manifestation of Vishnu
The sacred Shaligram stone, originating in the Gandaki river bed of Nepal, naturally exists with the inherent marks of Vishnu’s Divine disc- the Sudarshana Chakra. According to the Skanda Purana, this highly revered stone is a manifestation of the Supreme Preserver of the Universe. For the benefit of the world in Kali Yuga, Vishnu emerged in the form of Shaligram. Vaishnavites venerate this most sacred stone as an abstract form of Vishnu and it is believed to bestow six Divine blessings of spiritual elevation, righteous living, good health, harmony, prosperity, and worldly comforts.

The ritual is the carbonization of thoughts. Carbon is our information bearing atoms. The carbon residue (ash) given out as Prasad is to be placed on the third eye area of the participants and carries the blessings of the archetypes invoked.
