Hayagriva, the rare horse-faced incarnation of Vishnu, is the God of Knowledge and Wisdom, Guru (Teacher) of Wisdom Goddess Saraswati, and symbolizes the triumph of pure knowledge over ignorance.
According to the Vishnu Purana, he incarnated to restore the Vedas (Sacred Texts of Wisdom) that were stolen by the demons. Hence, he is known as the Restorer Archetype, who restores wisdom from the clutches of ignorance.
