“Swami Ramalingam is a 19th Century Tamil Siddha Master who, in 1874, turned his body to light and disappeared.
There are many different ways to define enlightenment. Its meaning varies throughout different religions. Some define enlightenment as god-realization; others view it as higher intelligence, while many see it as stopping the mind. In each case, the end result is the same. The being dies, whether enlightened or unenlightened. However, Ramalingam says “If you die, you have failed.” For him, enlightenment means turning the body into light. He says, “This can only be achieved through the grace of God”.
Omniscience, Omnipotence, and Omnipresence
God is infinitely merciful and, as such, Ramalingam developed a deep compassion and love toward everything; he could not even hurt a mosquito. When he saw a plant without water, he cried. When he saw people hungry and undernourished, he cried. Siva appeared before him and gave him these two lines:
Arut Perum Jothi, Arut Perum Jothi
Tani Perum Karunai, Arut Perum Jothi
With a broad understanding of A-R-U-L, divine intelligence can be attained. When a state of higher consciousness is reached, the body can turn to light, because Arul is God. The mantra was given to Swami Ramalingam by Siva himself.
Arut Perum Jyoti, Arut Perum Jyoti, Thani Perum Karunai, Arut Perum Jyoti
Arut Perum Jyoti, Arut Perum Jyoti, Thani Perum Karunai, Arut Perum Jyoti
Jyoti, Jyoti, Shiva Jyoti, Chidambaram Jyoti, Chit Akasha Jyoti,
Arut Perum Jyoti, Arut Perum Jyoti, Thani Perum Karunai, Arut Perum Jyoti
Enlightenment is about realizing who we are. We are light. The body can turn to light, but this can only happen if the God of Light grants such a miracle.”
