If you look back to ancient India and the two epics Ramayana and Mahabharata, you might be surprised to find that women, along with innumerable Goddesses, held the highest status next to sages, kings, crown princes, and Gods.

In this feminine hierarchy, the mother, the queen, the wife, the eldest sister, older women, female seers (or Rishis), goddesses and demi-goddesses in the heavens, rivers, lakes and forests, represented higher wisdom, strength, power, righteousness, beauty and devotion.

Their role was to nourish, uplift and protect humanity from demons, wars, ignorance or evil. Both the human and celestial females were revered, honored and widely celebrated.

Goddess power

Then, it’s no surprise that today the Goddess energy is celebrated with great fervor during nine magical nights known as Navaratri—Nava means nine, and ratri means nights. There are four to five Navaratri celebrations throughout the solar year.

The most important Navaratri comes after the monsoon season, during the first nine phases of the waxing lunar cycle. This is a special Goddess festival ushering in three formidable archetypes:

  • Durga, the warrior Goddess.
  • Lakshmi, the wealth Goddess.
  • Saraswati, the wisdom Goddess.

These Goddesses catalyze all the existing powers of the feminine celestials. They’re archetypes of infinite power, justice, beauty, truth, victory, and wealth for all.

The powers of the Goddesses of autumn Navaratri—in the Vedic month Ashwin, when the Sun enters Virgo in the constellation Uttara Phalguni—are said to bring great miracles to those who connect with Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati.

A host of other Goddesses with supernormal powers are believed to restore intelligence and destroy demons that hoard humanity’s gold.

Moreover, the Goddesses redistribute wealth, reveal hidden truths, and bring back righteousness.

Some of their names are:

  • Chandi, the fiercest of all.
  • Mookambika, who brings right knowledge.
  • Vasudha Mahalakshmi, who brings success, harmony, and good fortune through real estate.

All Navaratri’s feminine celestials are said to live in the subtle, invisible planes of existence—yet their ethereal nature doesn’t make them any less real.

In fact, enlightened spiritual masters with an open third eye or heightened intuitive faculties can easily perceive the Goddesses and interact with them.

Many regular meditators, too, report seeing the Goddesses, as well as other celestial beings.

Dr. Pillai says that the special astronomical configurations of Navaratri can improve our brain processing functions.

Cluttered, unclear, vague ideas are demonic manifestations. The Goddess kills these demons and brings you clarity, success and prosperity,” he said.

The Goddesses’ victory

The cleansing aspects of Navaratri bring about huge transformation and victory over manipulation, dishonesty, anger, arrogance, violence, poverty, and ignorance.

Then the Divine Feminine restores:

  • beauty
  • wealth
  • happiness

The Navaratri Goddesses—Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati—are supposed to be ferocious and more powerful than the demonic forces that enslave humanity.

An extraordinary tenth Moon

The tenth waxing phase of the moon is known as Vijaya Dashami, celebrating the victory of Rama, the incarnation of Vishnu as a warrior king—an ideal man and embodiment of superior righteousness.

The myth says that after a long battle, he defeated Ravana, a ten-headed demon who’d kidnapped Seeta, Rama’s wife.

So the combined victories of the Goddesses and Rama end Navaratri with great pomp and joy.

How to get major boons from the Goddesses

  • Eat lighter foods.
  • Shower and wear clean or new clothes.
  • Offer flowers, sweets, light a lamp (or candle) and incense to images of the Goddesses.
  • Stay up late, if you’re able, to recite the Goddesses’ mantras.
  • In the first 3 nights: recite Durga’s protection mantra 108 times: OM DHOOM DURGAYEI NAMAHA.
  • In the second 3 nights: recite Lakshmi’s wealth mantra 108 times: SHREEM or SHREEM BRZEE.
  • In the final 3 nights: recite Saraswati’s wisdom mantra 108 times: AIM.
  • Sponsoring ceremonies to the Goddesses during this time is believed to bring you miracles of financial wealth, removal of fear and lethargy, positive results in studies, and even breakthroughs in research.
