Masi Magham: One of the Most Powerful Full Moons of the Year

Masi Magam is a major Hindu festival falling in the Tamil month, Masi. The month overlaps a few days with February and March Gregorian months. The Masi Magam festival is widely celebrated by the Tamil-speaking Hindus with great pomp and vigor.

Usually, in the Masi month, the Magham star falls during Full Moon Day / Pournami, but that is not always the case; the Magham star might also fall on a non-full moon day of Masi month. The Makam star is also spelled as Magam and Magham.

On Masi Magam, the processional idols of the temples are taken to the seashore, pond, or lake, given a ceremonial bath, and taken back to the temple as a procession. Many devotees follow the processional idol and take a dip after the ceremonial bath of the deities is over.

It is believed that the act of taking a dip in the holy water body this day will absolve a person of their sins.

Magha – the brightest star in the Leo constellation – is the birth star of royalty and enlightenment. When it aligns with the Full Moon during the Tamil month of Masi (February–March), it opens a doorway for the descent of Heavenly Beings and ancestors to the earth plane.

During this time, they are able to purify your karma and wash away curses.

The Birth Star of Kings & Ancestors

Dr. Pillai: “People born under the Magha star become leaders, politicians, and rulers. They dominate and excel in whatever profession they choose. The Magha star carries a lot of divine energy; it is the birth star of kings and ancestors.

During Masi Magham people visit a temple in Kumbakonam, Southern India to anoint themselves in water charged with powerful energy from enlightened beings. This sacred water cleanses away impurities of the mind, body, and, soul. Millions of people gather at this spot. No one wants to miss out on the opportunity of becoming re-energized.

Free Your Departed Loved Ones

Your ancestors are highly receptive to Tarpanam on this day.  If you have a mediocre job, meaningless relationships, and poor health, it is because your departed relatives are unable to bless you; they are still attached to the material world.

I have spoken many times about the benefits gained from performing Tarpanam. This ancient ritual will help lost souls step into the light. From this spiritual realm, they can shower you with great blessings.

The Miraculous Effects of Tarpanam

I have completed many pilot studies on Tarpanam. There is a tremendous amount of proof that it really does work. This Vedic practice has the ability to change people’s lives in a very positive way.”

At-Home Tarpanam Ceremony to Dissolve Ancestral Karma

For performing a Tarpanam ceremony, you’ll need: raw rice or white rice flour, black sesame seeds, dharba grass, a coin (dime, nickel, quarter, or gold coin), and a glass of water.

Instructions:

  • Hold a tablespoon of black sesame seeds, rice, a coin, and a few pieces of dharba grass in your right hand.
  • Sprinkle a few drops of water on the mixture.
  • As you do this, beginning with your maternal ancestors, say: “I invite you to take this offering. Six generations of maternal ancestors. Take this energy. Be healed. Be at peace. Cross into the light, and please remember to bless me.” You can name specific ancestors, if you’d like. As you get more comfortable with this, you can increase the number of generations to 12 or more.
  • Pour the rest of the water on the mixture in your right hand. Let the mixture rinse off. You can do this over a tub or sink.
  • Make a heartfelt prayer to your ancestors.

Repeat all of the above steps for your father’s side of the family.

How Is Masi Magham Celebrated

On Masi Magham, the temple’s processional idols are decorated and taken to the seashore or ponds for the holy bath ritual. Processions from various temples converge at sea with the idols of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. The idols of Goddess Parvathi also reach the seashore.

The priests perform special pujas, and other rituals are performed to the idols at the seashore. Thousands of devotees gather at the seashore to have a darshan of the Gods and offer their prayers.

As per traditional rituals and customs, the Idols are given a dip in the sea, pond, or lake. The Idols of gods and goddesses of the Temples reach the water bodies in a big procession.

After the holy dip ritual of the deities is over, the devotees take a dip in the water body as it is believed that the sacred waters where the Gods had their dip will wash away all the sins.

Join Masi Magham Ceremonies

On this day, the Moon will be in the sign Leo while transiting the star Magha. The symbolic representation of the Magha star is a throne, which represents royalty consciousness.

Additionally, Leo’s association with the King & Queen of the planets, the Sun & the Moon, makes it a highly ideal day to amplify your prosperity and royalty consciousness, and set lofty goals and ambitions in life. This planetary combination can also help you get rid of your negative ego, and enhance your leadership and decision-making skills.
