Enjoy this week’s audio clips on Soundcloud in the Powertime Practice Playlist

We are working on getting video clips posted to the Pillai Center Practice YouTube Channel in the Powertime Practice Playlist. Thank you to the volunteers who have stepped forward! We do need more volunteers to do video editing and to help with editing audios, taking notes, and doing other writing. If you would like to experience the blessings of doing selfless service, please email us at powertimepractice@pillaicenter.com.

Sucharita welcomed us on the call yesterday on Pradosham, the 13th moon of the month.  This occurs twice a month, when the moon is waxing and waning.  When the moon waxes, we are up and bright, and when the moon is waning, our internal world is going more inward.  Right now we are approaching a New Moon on Monday October 8th, coming to the end of Mahalaya Paksha.  Mahalaya is a time when our departed ancestors are very close to the earth plane.  They want our attention and blessings and this is the best time to honor and propitiate these departed souls.

Sucharita demonstrated how to perform an Abhishekam (hydration) of spiritual statues, how to perform a tarpanam ceremony and how to honor Durga, a fierce goddess who can dispel pain and suffering.  The Nine Nights of the Goddess or Navaratri is approaching. This year Dr. Pillai wants us to honor Durga especially.

Astroved will be performing rituals in India to invoke a different form of Goddess Durga on each of the 9 nights. Learn more on Pillai Center.

Watch this and all LIVE Ceremony Webcasts on Astroved.com or on the Astroved YouTube Channel.

Consider joining the a course offered on Pillai Center Academy called the Goddess Wisdom Course. Every evening Sucharita will facilitate the broadcast of a video where Dr Pillai initiates you into a different aspect and mantra of the Goddess.

Another option is to participate in Nightly Goddess Fire Prayers performed by Pillai Center Teachers in the west. Paru will be taking the first three nights (Durga), the second three nights will be facilitated by Swamini Valli honoring Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and Sucharita will take the final three nights, honoring Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, wisdom and the arts. There will be a fire lab or pooja on the third night of each Goddess section-the 3rd night of the Nine Nights of the Goddess will be for Durga, the 6th night for Lakshmi and the 9th night for Saraswati.

During our meditation we start by aligning our spine, allowing the kundalini (goddess energy) to shoot up our shushumna through our chakras through our skulls and our into infinity. We always call on Ganesha using his seed sound “GUM” to open the flood gates to allow the goddess energy to shoot up our spines.

After the meditation, Sucharita showed us how to set up an altar for Abhishekam and tarpanam ceremonies.  The tray had a small crystal Ganesha statue, a Nandi (a bull who is the vehicle of Siva) statue and a Siva Lingam.  She reminds us that we will not be able to understand these ceremonies with our rational brains, so we need to pull inward and get into an internal mode.  First we invoke Ganesha, as always, by chanting Om Gum Kuru Kuru.  She poured orange juice, milk and water rover the statues in the tray while chanting certain mantras for each.  Thiru Neela Kantum is for busting karma.  After this, Sucharita poured the liquids out, down the drain saying this is the equivalent of dirty bath water that one would not want to use again!  Then she took flower petals, bilva leaves, fruits and nuts, water, ghee and sesame oil light, chanting Thiru Neela Kantum.

Then Sucharita showed us how to perform a tarpanam ceremony using white rice flour, coins and Durva grass, while chanting Om Namo Narayanaya.  Call on ancestors on your mother’s side of the family and the ancestors on your father’s side of the family.  Ask them to take the offering, to forgive everyone who harmed them, and to move along to higher realms, not forgetting to bless us.  Honor your ancestors-without them we would not be here!  Tarpanam must always be performed during the daylight hours.
