What is Meditation
Meditation is the act of focusing your mind on an object, a thought, or an activity. It is used as means to achieve spiritual bliss and mental peace. Though Meditation is practiced across several religions, its origin can be traced to Hinduism.
Throughout history, several saints and mystics have propagated Meditation to the people. They educated the people about the significance of Meditation and its positive effects on the people.
Definition of Meditation
One of the greatest mystics of the World, Swami Vivekananda, defines Meditation as, as a state “when the mind has been trained to remain fixed on a certain internal or external location, there comes to it the power of flowing in an unbroken current, as it were, towards that point.”
According to J.Krishnamurti, a renowned philosopher, “meditation is not the discipline of suppression or conformity, but it is the discipline that comes where there is an observation of thought.”
Process of Meditation
There are many schools of Meditation. Though the ultimate aim is to focus one’s mind, how it is done varies depending on the faith, school, or guru.
