Notoriously, Mercury’s domain boils down to communication and business. But also astrology, rational thinking, logic, and research are under the jurisdiction of this planet. Primarily, it’s our choice of wordings in everyday interactions that can make an ally or an enemy.
Capricorn represents the natural house of career and job, our reputation in society and the government. This is a good energy for material gain and success, but while Mercury is in this serious, ‘corporate’ environment, communication may seem harsh to sensitive ears.
So below are 5 easy steps for better communication and more successful results.
Do unto others. Since corporate language may often seem dehumanizing, it’s important to put ourselves in the proverbial shoes of the recipient. Feels good? If not, perhaps different words can send a better message.
Yield gold with niceties. Even at the managerial level, we must remember that an employee is more inclined to work harder when he or she feels empowered and respected. I have always worked in professional yet friendly environments, where workers and boss alike exchanged on occasion some niceties—not empty blah-blahs, but rather an intelligent way to respect and empower workers to go far and beyond their call of duty—thus improving productivity.
Take Your Time. Having been on both sides of the equation as an executive and also as a recipient of others’ decisions, I can testify that the same message can be more effective when it’s delivered in considerate terms. And, more important—it takes the same amount of time. Awareness takes only a few extra seconds.
Be loyal or at least diplomatic. Kinder communication and loyalty may even create true friendships. In my case, I met most of my friends at work. Helping each other, or being tactful saves the day in difficult situations. An unspoken attitude of, “Who cares about you? You’re not family,” usually backfires. After all, we are spending most of our waking hours at work.
Enjoy enhanced creativity. As many of us worldwide are turning to more meaningful jobs that allow us to express ourselves creatively and may have the far-reaching goal of making this a better world, choosing considerate forms of communication is now a necessity. This will make for a happier work environment and foster self-belief in employees. According to statistics, employees’ self-belief is behind the highest productivity.
