Mahalaya (or Pitri Paksha) is a two-week period between the 1st waning Moon and the New Moon day between September and October that is completely dedicated to the ancestors and rituals in their honor.

Mahalaya starts on 1st waning Moon and ends on Amavasya, the darkest phase of the Moon.

While this period is not considered auspicious for happy celebrations such as weddings, its importance can’t be overstated, as it offers unique energies for connecting with the subtle and invisible realms of the departed.

Our ancestors need our prayers and worship, because they are often in a state of confusion and suffering—and many don’t even realize that they are dead.

Long-forgotten knowledge stemming from the Siddhas, spiritual scientists of India, points to a strong connection between your ancestors’ souls and your soul. This unbreakable connection is crucial for our happiness and its genetic aspects prompted Dr. Pillai to coin the name Soul Genetics.

We haven’t just inherited from our ancestors our biological genes. In fact, our thoughts and belief systems also derive from our departed family members. Moreover, our ‘soul genes’ are a genetic predisposition and our biological genes can think just as much as our brains.

The spiritual state of your departed ancestors is fundamental for your physical, mental, emotional and financial wellbeing. For example, a confused and suffering ancestor can affect you through unclear thinking, poor decision making and can stop your overall success. So pacifying and healing your ancestors through Tarpanam, a set of traditional rituals performed on your behalf by trained specialists in India, is a compassionate step to help your departed relatives cross into a higher dimensional state. These rituals have the additional benefit of providing you with solutions to your problems.
