Indra was powerless to the demonic forces that had taken over. In desperation he asked Lord Vishnu how he could protect everyone. He was advised to churn the milky ocean in the hope that the Goddess would find forgiveness in her heart and return.
The gods churned the ocean relentlessly for over a thousand years. Finally, a vision of beauty arose before their very eyes. The Goddess Lakshmi ascended from the milky depths. With her help, the gods were able to defeat the demons and reclaim their world.
