Today, Sunday, July 16th, the Sun enters Cancer. This day is considered the Vedic Summer Solstice, after which the Sun will be traveling southward through the zodiac for the next 6 months.
Sun transiting Cancer this month is going to activate Goddess Consciousness for the world. Goddess energy, or Shakti, is the creative force of the universe. You can develop a relationship with the Goddess and increase your level of love, abundance, and positivity.

Cancer is the most nurturing and emotionally sensitive sign, is ruled by the Moon. Called Karkata in Sanskrit, Cancer is a watery sign symbolized by the crab. Water symbolizes emotion. Crabs are sensitive creatures that have a hard exoskeleton that protects them as they move between the ocean and the shore.
Cancer is the natural 4th house of the zodiac, having to do with your happiness and material comforts like home and vehicle. It relates to your heart in the physical body, and it signifies your mother & also relates to friends, happiness, and education. Sun in the 4th house can signify a good time for real estate matters, education, and possibly to repair your home or vehicle. On the down side, there could be emotional disturbances in the family or problems with the mother, home and vehicles.
Mars will be transiting in Cancer until late August, so be careful of unbalanced emotions and if you are angry, cool down before having a discussion or sending an email. This is because the fiery planet Mars is debilitated in Cancer.
Goddess Power Fridays
Each of the four Fridays, known as Aadi Vellis, will be power days for honoring the Goddess and receiving her blessings. According to the Astroved astrologers, there is a specific energy available for each Friday. Learn about the Goddess Fridays here.
You can honor the Goddess at home very simply by offering candlelight/ghee lamp, incense, flowers and raisens/fruit/sweets to a picture, yantra, or statue of a Goddess. Chant one of her mantras such as the ultimate wealth mantra Shreem Brzee. Pillai Center will soon be offering Shreem Brzee chanting on Fridays – stay tuned for more details.
Dr. Pillai has shared how meditating on the sacred geometry of the square can “square away” your material comforts. Since this month the focus is on the fourth house, you may want to meditate on a square, draw a square, and write or visualize your manifestations in the square. Then put the square up where you can see it. Red squares are especially good for manifestation. Post-it notes come in perfect square shapes.
Dr. Pillai has said if you are not happy with your home, your body, your vehicle, then looking at a square can help you to square away your consciousness and thus square away your material comforts. Whatever is on the outside, we have created from our insides.
Sun will be Transiting through the Birthstars of Cancer:
Punarvasu is a star of renewal, of making things good again. Repetition and recycling. It is related to the mother earth and taking care of the environment. Punarvasi consists of two bright stars, Castor and Pollux. It is symbolized by a quiver of arrows. By itself, an arrow is easily broken, but bundled together arrow are strong and unbreakable. Has to do with going on a journey or mission and coming back safely. Can store up resources. Rama was born in the Punarvasu star.
Pushya, the luckiest of the stars, is ruled by Saturn and is associated with gentleness and the nourishment of milk and of spiritual teachings. Its symbol is a cow’s udder. It is a star of enlightenment and blessings and can bring the qualities of generosity, optimism, compassion, joyfulness. Pushya can bless you to consider everyone around as if they were family and to selflessly serve them.
Ashlesha star is associated with the powerful kundalini energy. Its symbol is a coiled snake. It’s ruled by the nagas, which are half serpent and half human. Snakes can sometimes be poisonous, but on the positive side, snakes are semi-divine with great wisdom and power. There is said to be a world or loka called the celestial serpent kingdom. It is mysterious, as is the Aslesha star itself. People born under this asterism have a responsibility to learn to use power wisely. A key concept is to align yourself with the Divine will and be a clear channel of the divine energy.
