  5. Powerful Ways to Celebrate...

For those in lockdown, curfews or self-isolation, 21st century technology can link you to the Goddess. Look at virtual ways to receive divine female energy.

The Goddess is the power of your consciousness. She is the miracle-performing intelligence within the brain called ‘Arul Shakti’, or ‘Chit Shakti’ (chit means consciousness). Your consciousness is in other words, feminine. In biblical terms, she is the Holy Spirit, or the power of God. She is the dynamic form of the spirit.

On a yearly basis, the Nine Nights of the Goddess are very important; they are potent with the energy of the goddesses. The Yogis and Siddhas wait for Navaratri because this is the time when the energies of all the goddesses are abundantly available.” — Dr. Pillai

Navaratri 2020 is here. It is one of the most auspicious festivals of the year. With the coronavirus still at large, many of us will be in lockdown, on curfews or self-isolating, but you can still take part in the celebrations thanks to 21st century technology.

Virtual Pooja for the Goddess Durga

Print out an image of the goddess. Place an oil lamp or battery operated candle in front of her and keep it illuminated for the duration of the festival.

Light scented candles to create a feeling of complete serenity and calm.

Focus the mind on her divine presence, feel her energy, sit with her – worship her in prayer in a quiet room. Ask other members of the family to join you in this time of unity and love.

Alternatively, you could maximize the benefits of Navratri courtesy of a virtual pooja from The Astroved Homa Center. Dr. Pillai personally selects priests who are gifted with the knowledge to perform such worship. A virtual offering helps to increase the positive qualities of the goddess.

Create Your Own Goddess Offerings

Use lockdown as a way of bonding with the family. Share the cooking and create some wonderful dishes to satisfy the nine different forms of Maa Durga. Place them beside her image.

Empower Yourself with the Energy of the Sun

Recite the Gayatri mantra three times a day. This is a prayer to the Sun – the life-giver. Dr. Pillai has personally chanted the mantra on YouTube. Visualize the sun streaming into your body, mind and soul as he recites:

Om Bhur Bhuvah Swaha

Tat Savitur Varenyam

Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi

Dhiyoyona Prachodayat

The mantra says: “Let us meditate on that excellent glory of the divine vivifying Sun, May he enlighten our understanding.”

Perform an Aarti for the Goddess

An aarti is a flame offered to a deity. During Navaratri the flame is a symbol of respect for each aspect of Maa Durga. Dip the wick of a candle into clarified butter; light the wick and move it around an image of the goddess while reciting a short prayer of deep love and respect for her.

Sweet Treats for Younger Members of the Family

Young female children may be given sweet treats during the evenings. If there are no female children in the household, a donation to the Tripura Foundation or one of the many other children’s charities will give impoverished children a glimmer of hope for a better life through your loving kindness.

Maintain a Positive State of Mind

This is a time for cleansing the mind of impurities such as negativity, jealousy, anger or hatred. Meditation will help you resist any obstructive emotions – making it easier to stay in line with the positive vibrations of Navaratri.

Virtual Performances

Join in the fun at home – click on the various forms of entertainment available online. Join dancers, singers and artists as they raise the spirits. Dance and music is a major part of the festival. Dress for the occasion in traditional clothes and colors. During the evening, listen to Hindi pop music and dance along with the family.
